Of Oscars and Actors

23 February 2009 | By tim-wnor in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

I caught the tale end of the Oscars show on Sunday and it got me to thinking…who are the greatest actor and actress of all time? For me the actor is easy, Paul Newman. Jack Nicholson, Henry Fonda and a long list of others would be close to the top, but for me, on top of his incredible body of work, Paul Newman is the one guy who  never appeared in a truly terrible movie.

As for greatest actress of all time, that’s a little tougher. Meryl Streep is at the top, even though she still has a bit more of her career in front of her. Then there’s Katherine Hepburn, like Paul Newman an incredible body of work and no truly terrible movies. Like the actors many others could be added to the list.

Will today’s stars match these legends? Only time will tell. There are some truly gifted actors and actresses out there, Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, Kate Winslett, the list goes on and on. It’ll be interesting to see how their careers develop as the get in their 50’s and beyond.

Chill finally gets a hole in one.

Congratulations to the best traffic guy in Hampton Roads…After years of playing golf at a very high level, last time I checked his handicap was 1 or 0, Chill finally got a hole in one.

Golf is a funny game, I know some 18 handicappers that have multiple aces. Chill has been shooting in the 60’s and 70’s his entire life and doesn’t get his first hole in one till a couple of weeks ago.  I’ve been playing the game for years myself and have yet to score an ace. Birdies…lots of those, the occasional eagle, yes, even one double eagle, but a hole in one, never.

I guess it’s one of the myriad of reasons we keep playing the game, you never know when you’re going to hit a shot you’ll remember for the rest of your life.
